I've volunteered every week at a pregnancy center for the past few years. If you're called to do the same, I highly recommend it! That said, if your calling is in other areas, but you still want to help in some way, there are several things you can do from the "outside" to support pregnancy resource centers.
First of all, pregnancy centers often have fundraising events a few times a year, like 5Ks. Participating in these events is a great way to help them raise money. Sharing Needs Spreading the word is also important. You could contact your local pro-life pregnancy resource center and see if they have any flyers or pamphlets you could put at your church. You could even ask them if there's a list of supplies they need donated, and share that list with people either in person or with local friends on social media. Needs fluctuate because sometimes the center has far more of one thing than another, so asking for an updated list is never a bad idea. (Side note: did you know that thirty-six percent of women who had abortions reported attending church at least once a month, according to a study done by Lifeway Research? Spreading the word in your church isn't just so people know to donate supplies; it's also to help women in need find help.) Social Media Thinking of social media, that's a huge area you can get involved. Many people claim that pro-life individuals don't care about women, or that they don't care to help once the baby is born. By taking a caring, nonargumentative stance while sharing information about the sanctity of life or other pro-life issues, you can dispel the misconceptions many people have about the pro-life movement. I run several social media accounts for small organizations, and let me tell you—it's hard to get engagement! Unlike my personal social media, I can't rely on making personal connections and can only rely on likeminded people liking, sharing, and commenting. Many small pregnancy support centers might greatly benefit from you championing their pages. Each like, comment, share, save, etc. teaches the algorithm that people want to see their posts, and it helps them reach more people. Learning About Adoption Finally, you can learn more about adoption and be ready to share if the situation comes up. A shocking number of women have said to me that they're leaning toward abortion, even though they know the baby is alive. They say that since they can't be good mothers at this time, the only right thing to do is to kill their babies, because they have personal experience with being abused by foster parents. But while in the past most adoptions were closed and birth parents had no contact with their children, a great number of adoptions are now open, and birth parents are able to be a small part of their child's life. This could work against the fear these women have, since they would then be able to see that their child is well cared for—but even though open adoptions have been common for quite a while now, many women don't know that. The more people understand modern adoptions, the better! Those are some ideas to get you started. The biggest thing is to learn, share, and most definitely pray about it. If you can think of any other ways to get involved, let me know in the comments below!
